Try saying this in one breath. “Blessed is the man who walks not in the counsel of the ungodly, nor stands in the way of sinners, nor sits in the seat of the scornful; but his delight is in the law of the Lord, and in His law he does meditate day and night; and he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water that brings forth it fruit in its season, and whatsoever he does shall prosper….
If you are like me, you just ran out of breath, and there is still another 3 verses to go in Psalm 1. What is the point, you ask? The great movie star, Richard Burton could recite the entire content of Psalm 1 in one breath. He was a gifted actor and two times husband of Elizabeth Taylor. He was also known as a womanizer and heavy drinker. He died sadly, when he was just 58 of a brain haemorrhage.
When Burton was young, he wanted nothing more than to be a Shakespearian actor. His mentor told him, he had no chance of success, unless he could say Psalm 1 in one breath. It was quite a task, but Richard practiced and practiced until he gained success.
So there you have it. A very strange anomaly; here is a man who learns thoroughly the secret of a happy and blessed life. His reason for doing so is only to be an actor. All the money and success of this world were not able to give him, the application of the truth he drummed into himself as a young man. What a tragedy. But what does this say about you? God’s word is called the “Word of Life”. Learn it, and apply it, if you don’t want to waste the one thing that is precious to you – your life.
